Tourism Laurentians

Type:

The Laurentians region is 22,000 square kilometres of pure delight just north of Montreal. It’s named after the chain of mountains which runs down its northern side and is part of the great Canadian Shield. It’s a rich territory that has always been coveted, a wealthy land of a thousand different aspects. It unfolds slowly to the visitor and will conquer the heart of the most fervent city-dweller with its broad peaceful lakes set among immense forests of maple and pine trees.

The region offers three distinct playgrounds: the Lower Laurentians, home to local producers and artisans in a delightful rural setting; the heart of the region, widely known for its all-season resorts and cottages nestled between lakes, forests and mountains; and the northern part, the ultimate kingdom of outfitting camps which attract fishers, hunters, off-road vehicles afficionados and vacationers alike.

Some highlights:

  • The Laurentians region ranks #1 as a four-season resort destination in the province.
  • Its vast and surprising array of non-traditional accommodations makes it also one of the top glamping destinations in Quebec. And camping on your own island is a dream come true here!
  • The region is the cradle of alpine skiing in Quebec, hosting one third of the province’s ski resorts.
  • It’s well-known for the Mont-Tremblant National Park, the oldest in the province (3rd in Canada and 6th in North America) and the largest outside Nunavik region.
  • It’s also home to one of the longest linear parks in the country, Le P’tit Train du Nord (more than 230 km), as well as the longest zipline course in Quebec, Ziptrek Tremblant (nearly 4 km).
  • For those who love relaxing, know that it’s a lifestyle here in the Laurentians, thanks to its numerous spas nestled in nature and its “après-ski” rituals.
