2022 is the year of Jackson’s bicentennial, and the destination’s yearlong celebration features a variety of events and attractions designed to explore the unique aspects of Jackson’s history. One of the most-anticipated events of the celebration is the brand-new exhibit by 12 African-American artists. “A Movement in Every Direction: Legacies of the Great Migration,” now open at the Mississippi Museum of Art through September 2022, examines the deep impact of the Great Migration on social and cultural life. Visitors can also head to local bars and restaurants to try exclusive cocktails that were specifically created for the celebration and are available only this year. The Soul Stirrer and the Bicentennial cocktails are made with Jackson’s local flavors, featuring a delicious and distinctive blend of ingredients from locally crafted Cathead Distillery vodka and sparkling seltzer. Plus, don’t miss the annual Mississippi State Fair, coming to downtown Jackson from Oct. 6–16. One of the biggest festivals in the South, the Mississippi State Fair celebrates Southern hospitality and brings in more than 600,000 people every year to enjoy numerous exhibits, carnival rides, food and more.
